Ibu Kartini is a widow who has no children. She sells Indonesian snacks called “kerupuk” which she makes herself. She and her husband used to make the “kerupuk” together and then she would consign her snacks to small corner shops. She had lots of loyal customers who would line up to buy her snacks. However, after her husband died, she was unable to keep up with the orders per usual and her sales and income decreased significantly.
One day, Ibu Kartini cut her leg on some broken glass while she was making her “kerupuk.” Due to her history of diabetes, she didn’t feel the glass in her leg and didn’t notice the wound until her leg was swollen. At that point, she was hospitalized for a week to recover.
After coming home from the hospital, she was unable to walk. Access Life Bali helped her by providing a wheelchair. Now with the use of the wheelchair, she is able to cook and move around her house independently. She is so thankful for the help of Access Life Bali. We are hopeful that Ibu Kartini will be able to walk again. Recently she has begun trying to take some steps and is making progress slowly but surely.
