Ketut lives up in the mountains and was born without complications or noticeable disabilities. She developed normally until around the age of two, when her parents noticed that her legs were not very strong and were not growing in proportion to the rest of her body. The doctors were not sure if she had polio or cerebral palsy. Since her legs were too weak to walk, she could only crawl around her house.
In September 2017, Access Life Bali gave her a wheelchair, which she immediately took to. She started calling it her “motorcycle.” Along with the wheelchair, we have been encouraging her family to stretch her legs, specifically her ankles, and we have already seen improvement in her feet positioning and range of motion. This has allowed her to learn to stand by holding on to the wall in front of her house. She now likes to stand at the front wall and watch people and traffic pass by.
